“It was a wholly positive experience. Clare’s hugely perceptive and leaves no stone unturned.”

Jessica Miles, Head at Badminton School

Jessica Miles, Head at Badminton School, commissioned Synergia Coaching to assist with her 360 appraisal. Jessica wanted to take the opportunity for some self-reflection whilst enhancing her continued professional development.

“In the role as a Head, you never find much time for reflection because there’s so much going on. The work with Clare gave me that time for reflection and also the opportunity for some self-care,” Jessica said.

Jessica had known Clare for several years from various conferences, alongside her work with the Girls School Association and HMC.

They had initially planned to work together in 2019, when Jessica enrolled on the Level 7 Coaching Qualification that Synergia deliver, but this was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. When it was time for Jessica’s 360 Appraisal, the first call she made was to Synergia.

The Process

The process was for Synergia to create a survey about Jessica’s role and distribute this to every single member of staff in the school community, as well as interviewing staff, including the Senior Leadership Team.

Jessica was impressed with Clare’s knowledge of the independent school sector, saying,

“She is perceptive and has a really good understanding of the sector, and showed emotional intelligence in the work that I really responded to. She understands nuance and knows that the role of Head is different in each school.”

Delivery & Results

Following agreement with the Chair of Governors, we selected Clare to conduct Jessica’s appraisal.

Synergia then visited the school for two days to conduct interviews, and staff could also provide their final feedback. This included some staff focus groups and meetings with governors and the Senior Leadership Team.

Once this work was complete, a final visit saw Clare meet with Jessica to provide final feedback, which Jessica found informative.

“As a person, you often know your areas of strength, but this work confirmed to me that my perceived areas of weakness are not necessarily seen that way by my colleagues. There were a few curveballs, but these gave me areas to work on. This was a good, reflective piece for me,” Jessica shared.
